Actor Hilary Duff with two children and a third on the way, knows all about a busy work schedule and juggling motherhood. For about five months, Duff has been in New York City shooting the seventh season of his Land TV series, Younger. But with her due date soon approaching, Duff is now back to work as a mom at home in California. “I’m so happy to be back in my sunny garden right now with my dogs,” Duff said over the phone last week.
In addition to Younger, Duff is also looking after his new collaboration with Smash + Tess, a Canadian brand of loungewear and rompers. “After my quarantine in Los Angeles it was probably two months later when [founder Ashley Freeborn] reached out, and for my son about 11 weeks, I had been a second grade teacher – so I was like, damn yeah, I’m down to do something creative. Duff has designed a collection inspired by her own wardrobe as a mom at work, where she is constantly on the lookout for pieces that combine comfort and style; it includes items such as rompers and even rompers (overalls). , in sizes from XXS to XXXL.
Duff says the line, which launches tomorrow, offers moms (and non-moms!) Options that are both comfortable and yet combined. Duff says throughout her pregnancy, rompers have been her hero piece and there are a variety of styles in the line. There is a black romper with shoulder pads which is perfect for dressing up to the waist. Duff says, “At home, everyone sits on Zoom meetings, so I feel comfortable, but a little more classy.” Duff says, there’s also a floral print romper, because “I’m obsessed with anything related to 70s.” For kids, she even made mini rompers.
The actor says, as a mom on the go, my approach to fashion has changed overall. “And it isn’t always done! But I like the accessorizing and basic colors with a fun bag and shoes. I love a big earring. In her new line she also liked finding different hacks to dress up the neutral rompers.
While she clearly has a penchant for dressing up, even staying at home, Duff says she struggled with the maternity style, just like any other mom. She understands the need for simple pieces that you can wear without really thinking about it, which is at the heart of her Smash + Tess line. “Maternity clothes are so tough,” Duff says. “To look taller you dress in oversized clothes. I just turned [Younger], though, and got to wear these amazing clothes. I was like, I look great in there – but we had a seamstress on set and someone doing my hair. In my real everyday life, I could never accomplish this!
