Some occasions call for a spectacular gala dress or the perfect LBD, others call for a great pair of pants. Last week, as stars tackled home photoshoots, sporting events and talk show appearances, many opted for the first, looking for all variations of tailored pants. Embellished jumpsuits, pants and shorts have all made their mark, providing alternatives to the dominated casual wear and cocktail dresses in recent months.
Artists often dress up at the Super Bowl, but Jazmine Sullivan gave a high-end fashion statement to the Raymond James stadium crowd. The Area suit of Sullivan was dazzling: all white with crystal stitching adorning the corset blazer and each pant leg. Adding a matching bright hairpiece that covered her ponytail with strands of bling increased the decadence factor of the look, allowing the singer to capture her moment in style.
Elsewhere, social media and virtual press tours have produced a series of memorable outfits. Eiza González chose a deceptively simple Louis Vuitton look to answer Zoom’s calls during a press day for her upcoming film, I Care A Lot. González’s black pants and sleeveless top seemed simple at first glance, but a closer look revealed the intricacies of Nicolas Ghesquière’s design. The pants were crisp and unique with high waist structured stitching, a silver zip fly and hip pockets. Equally intricate were the trippy jeans Kylie Jenner wore while hanging out around the house with her daughter Stormy. Jenner is known for revealing pieces in online stores and under radar brands, but vintage Tom Ford for Gucci menswear circa 2001 was her eye-catching denim find.
While there were a few standout dresses – on Instagram, Amanda Gorman looked resplendent in McQueen ruffles, while Lily Rabe turned heads with Batsheva polka dots – the week belonged to the women who wore the pants. While doing press for Breaking News in Yuba County, Allison Janney opted for black and white checkered dividers by Stella McCartney. Cut from a durable stretch knit, McCartney’s pieces felt relaxed but were not lacking in sophistication. And on the Janney statue, they reflected the perfect blend of comfort and style. That vibe was also summed up by Gabrielle Union, who gave February a jolt of summer bliss in Valentino’s loose short-sleeved blouse and black lace shorts. Lightweight and detailed with floral appliqués, Union’s outfit marked the months to come and all the fascinating fashion that awaits us.
